Literacy Projects

Altrusa of Anaheim considers promoting literacy as our greatest service to the community.  Our focus is to place books and reading materials directly into the hands of local children particularly those in the underserved population.  Below we list our many partnerships:​

Anaheim Boys & Girls Club – books for kindergarten through High School as well as magazine subscriptions, book cases, art supplies and board games.  Self help books and SAT preparation materials for the junior high and high school students.  We also provide book cases, art supplies and other materials
Boys Hope Girls Hope - provide Books on their National List for the Students to read and earn scholarship money.  We partner with the students to read the books and help earn additional money.

Cappy's Kids - Distribute books to local health clinics so the doctors can give them to patients.

Casa Teresa - Supportive family home to pregnant women and their babies facing difficult circumstances.  Altrusa of Anaheim provides school and reading books for the Mothers and Children's books for their kids and babies.
Creative Writing Project - writing competition for fourth-sixth graders in conjunction with the Anaheim Library and School System along with the Chance Theater

Hope Reads - distributes new or slightly used books in a 'take-away' library to patients and staff for Cancer Centers in our local hospitals as well as resource manuals and IPADS and Kindles
Joya – provide SAT, ACT and AP prep material; also assist with College Text Books.  Also provide graphic calculators and other academic needs.

Juvenile Hall - provide books and school supplies for the students residing in the Orange County Juvenile Hall
Project Dignity – provide books to children without an address and medical clinics
Anaheim Public Library – provide magazine subscriptions
Pathways of Hope – provide books to resident children, as requested, arrange tours of the library with staff to familiarize them with the functions of the library and to obtain library cards and provide self-help books as well as other books for the adults 
Monthly Collection of magazines - distributed to the Senior Centers, Red Cross Blood Drives and whenever else needed.
